Blacklick homes and roofs

Blacklick is an unincorporated area on Columbus’s east side along Blacklick Creek. Nearby Blacklick Estates had 8,990 people at the 2020 census, and Hurricane Frederic’s rains flooded 300 homes there in 1979. Homes range from older ranches to newer subdivisions, and low spots near the creek make gutters and drainage worth checking along with the roof.

Weather that wears on Blacklick roofs

Central Ohio roofs take freeze-thaw cycles, ice dams along cold eaves, spring hail and summer straight-line winds. When the remnants of Hurricane Ike crossed on September 14, 2008, the National Weather Service measured a 75 mph gust at Port Columbus, a few miles from our Gahanna office.

Permits and HOAs in Blacklick

Blacklick is not its own city, so who issues permits depends on your address. Homes inside Columbus or Gahanna follow those cities’ rules, and unincorporated parts of Franklin County go through Franklin County’s building department. We check your parcel and pull whatever permit applies.

Newer Blacklick subdivisions often have HOA rules; older streets usually do not. We check before ordering.
