A completed Roof Revivers valley flashing repair, shown with crew photos.
Galena, Ohio · December 2024
The homeowners reported a leak where a roof valley ran into a cedar-sided wall, a spot roofers call a dead valley. Water carried down the valley had nowhere to go at the wall. The crew opened the area, laid in a rubber membrane with insulation board where the valley meets the wall, replaced cedar siding boards at the wall line, and re-shingled the slope with CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Heatherblend. No permit was needed for this repair.
A roof valley is where two slopes meet, and it carries more water than any other part of the roof. Valleys are flashed with metal or membrane under the shingles. When a valley runs into a wall instead of draining to a gutter, or its flashing and decking wear out, water backs up under the shingles and shows up as a ceiling stain.
