Hayes Barton is one of the Five Points neighborhoods northwest of downtown Raleigh, lying generally west of Glenwood Avenue and north of Wade Avenue. Landscape architect Earle Sumner Draper laid it out with curving roads and ravine parks, and building began in 1920. The City of Raleigh notes that about half the houses were built in the mid- to late 1920s, mostly Georgian Revival, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival and Dutch Colonial Revival, with Craftsman foursquares and bungalows east of Glenwood Avenue.
