About Cameron Village

Cameron Village, about a mile northwest of downtown Raleigh, opened in 1949 as North Carolina’s first planned mixed-use development, with the shopping center (renamed Village District in 2021) surrounded by apartments and single-family homes built mostly between 1948 and 1953. The blocks of single-family homes are a National Register historic district known for post-World War II ranch houses. Neighboring Cameron Park and Oberlin Village have older homes from the early 1900s.
