Powell and its homes
Powell is a city in Liberty Township, Delaware County, about 14 miles north of downtown Columbus between the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, in ZIP code 43065. It had 14,163 people and 4,965 housing units at the 2020 census (U.S. Census). Settled in 1801 and once known as Middlebury, it took the name Powell in 1857, was incorporated in 1947 and became a city in 2000.
Powell stayed a village of under 400 people until the late 1980s; the census counted 387 residents in 1980, 6,247 in 2000 and 11,500 in 2010. That means most Powell homes, from the older streets near the Four Corners to subdivisions such as Golf Village, were built in the last few decades. On roofs with several gables, dormers, valleys and roof-to-wall joints, those details are where we most often find leaks.
Roof repair in Powell
Our Powell repair jobs show the pattern. At a chimney flashing repair, the old flashing and sealant around a brick chimney had failed, and the crew replaced water-damaged decking and installed new flashing and shingles. At a step and wall flashing repair, a gap had opened where the shingles met the siding, so the crew rebuilt the roof-to-wall line with flashing and new shingles. Fascia, soffit and trim repair
Rotted fascia or trim is usually a symptom: water is getting behind the wood from a roof edge, a valley or a wall. At a Powell dead valley and trim board repair, a valley ran into a wall and the trim boards there had rotted. The crew replaced water-damaged decking, installed new step flashing and ice and water shield, replaced the old trim with PVC trim boards and shingled the area back in. We fix the source of the water along with the wood, so the new fascia or trim does not rot the same way. Clogged gutters also push water into fascia, so we check gutters on every inspection.
Roof replacement in Powell
When the shingles are worn out across the roof, or the decking is soft in several areas, a replacement makes more sense than another repair. We install Owens Corning shingle systems; qualifying Owens Corning systems installed by a Platinum Preferred Contractor can carry the Owens Corning Platinum warranty with 25 years of non-prorated coverage. You get a written estimate with the scope spelled out before anything is signed. Our repair-or-replace guide explains how we make the call, and what sets the cost of a new roof in Ohio covers the factors in an estimate.
Roofing permits in Powell
The City of Powell lists roof replacement as requiring a Residential Building Permit. Permits are filed through the city's OpenGov portal, which replaced its previous system on September 1, 2026, contractors must be registered with the city to file, and every permit requires an inspection when the work is complete. The city also notes that work started without a required permit is a code violation and permit fees may be doubled. We pull the permit as part of a replacement.
Homes in Downtown Powell have extra zoning requirements for some exterior work, so if your home is downtown, check with the city (614-885-5380) before choosing a new roof color or material.
Storm damage and insurance in Powell
After wind or hail, we inspect the roof, document damage with photos and work with any insurance adjuster; whether a claim is approved is up to your insurer. If water is coming in, call during office hours and we can tarp the roof to limit damage until the permanent repair. See storm damage roof repair.
