Grove City, Ohio · July 2025
A Grove City leak that kept coming back: the crew traced it to a roof valley with no ice and water barrier under it, stripped the valley to the decking and rebuilt it with new barrier, W-style valley metal and new shingles, shown with before, during and after crew photos.
Grove City, Ohio · July 2025
The property manager for this Grove City home called us about a leak in May 2025. At the first inspection we found a leaking bath vent and a pipe boot that needed replacing, and the first repair replaced both, with new CertainTeed shingles worked in around them.
The leak did not fully stop. On the reinspection, the spot still leaking was on a roof valley on the back of the house, and there was no ice and water barrier under that valley. A valley carries the water from two slopes, so a valley without that barrier is a weak point no matter how good the shingles look. Our rule is to replace the valley when we work on one, not patch it, so the plan was to rebuild the valley, about 60 feet of it, from the decking up.
The crew did the work in July 2025. They stripped the valley shingles and underlayment down to the decking along its full length, ran new ice and water barrier up the valley, installed new black W-style valley metal in 10-foot sections over it, and cut new CertainTeed XT25 shingles in Weathered Wood back in on both sides. When a later leak turned up that summer, it was in a different spot, at a roof vent; the crew reflashed that vent and later replaced it with a new vent that has a flapper.
More water runs through a valley than anywhere else on a shingle roof. If the valley has no ice and water barrier under it, or the metal or shingles in it are failing, water can get to the decking every time it rains, and the leak can show up somewhere other than where it starts. Replacing the whole valley, from the barrier up, fixes the cause instead of chasing the stain. See our roof repair in Columbus, roofing in Grove City, and repair or replace.
